Dr. Gonzalez brings a family medicine foundation to a focused practice in sports medicine, musculoskeletal care, point-of-care ultrasound, and ultrasound-guided procedures. He is completing fellowship training in Primary Care Sports Medicine at Loyola University Medical Center–MacNeal Hospital, after residency at Rush University Medical Center / Esperanza Health Centers, where he was part of the inaugural class.
His clinical interests span non-operative sports medicine, ultrasound-guided diagnostics and interventional procedures, and orthobiologics — with a long-term vision, further down the road, of building an accessible, performance-oriented musculoskeletal practice in the communities he knows best.
He cares for patients across the spectrum — from competitive and recreational athletes to laborers and parents keeping up with a toddler — grounded in trust, careful listening, and respect for what movement means in a person's life, whether the goal is returning to sport, protecting a career, or simply moving through the day with confidence.
A first-generation Mexican-American physician and the son of immigrants, Dr. Gonzalez was the first in his family to graduate from college and earn a medical degree. From a chemistry and biochemistry degree at Loyola to medicine at the University of Illinois, that path shaped a practice centered on service, resilience, and showing up for the patients and communities others overlook.
The through-line is unmistakable. He graduated from Morton East High School and, later, from Loyola University Chicago — and today, as a fellow, serves as a team physician for both the Morton East & West Mustangs and the Loyola Ramblers. Caring for athletes at the schools that shaped him is, in his words, the best kind of full circle.
During residency he helped create a sports medicine pathway where none existed — co-designing electives in point-of-care ultrasound, urgent care, and machine learning, and expanding sideline opportunities for residents across the Rush system. He most recently practiced family medicine at Duly Health & Care, building a new patient panel with a 4.9/5 Press Ganey satisfaction score before returning to fellowship.
Dr. Gonzalez trains in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (a competitive blue belt), lifts and works with kettlebells, and draws in charcoal and paints still lifes in oil. Above all, he values time with his wife and their son — the reason discipline and presence sit at the center of how he practices.

Dr. Gonzalez's work centers on clinically actionable questions: earlier detection of underrecognized disease, better use of point-of-care ultrasound, and thoughtful integration of technology — always grounded in patient context. His trajectory runs from peer-reviewed orthopedic outcomes research toward translational sports medicine and primary care investigation.
He initiated and leads a PROSPERO-registered systematic review and meta-analysis (CRD42025637353) on home- and office-based sarcopenia screening in adults ages 40–60 — designing the research question and protocol, co-developing the search strategy with three research librarians, coordinating a five-member team, and serving as first reviewer, with statistician support for extraction and meta-analysis under sports medicine faculty oversight.
He also led a disparity-focused, data-driven study of abdominal aortic aneurysm screening in an underserved FQHC population — building the protocol, running the statistical analysis (chi-square, logistic regression, model performance), and making the case for point-of-care ultrasound as a screening solution for those most likely to fall through the cracks. The work earned a research poster award for exemplary scientific and methodological rigor, with a manuscript in preparation.

Dr. Gonzalez designed and led a clinical AI elective modeling osteoarthritis pain scores from the OAI dataset, completing the Stanford/MIT "AI in Healthcare" curriculum and teaching a departmental didactic on machine learning for clinicians. It reflects a broader interest in data-informed care that stays grounded in the exam room.

He co-developed a point-of-care ultrasound elective for family medicine residents with emergency medicine faculty, and teaches through conference workshops and resident didactics — emphasizing musculoskeletal reasoning, practical primary care, and fellowship preparation, with clarity and clinical relevance at the core.
